The proposed Commissioner of Police office building in Tambaram, Chennai, embodies strength and authority, essential qualities of the Tamil Nadu Police Force. Designed with a symmetrical layout, the building ensures functional zoning, effectively segregating different departments and their ancillary spaces. The architectural design emphasizes balance, order, and verticality, with three prominent floors that progressively reduce in mass, drawing inspiration from the Gopurams of Dravidian architecture.

The façade is striking, featuring evenly spaced rectangular windows flanked by robust pillars, while vertical and horizontal shading is thoughtfully integrated to enhance both aesthetics and energy efficiency. A central pediment crowns the structure, adding a classical touch of elegance to the otherwise modern form. The light-colored exterior contrasts with the darker window frames, creating a refined visual interplay. Circular landscaped areas surrounding the flagpole inject a touch of greenery, offering an inviting break from the building’s formal rigidity.

The design blends classical architectural elements with contemporary functionality, creating a dignified yet approachable environment. It reflects the power and stature of the police force while ensuring a workspace that is both efficient and visually impressive.

The grace and the magnificence of the Dravidian style of architecture is partly due to the proportions that balance the overall scale with the visual balance of the viewer. This combination leads to an architectural marvel that is unmatched in the aura it gives
