The proposed Commissioner of Police office building in Tambaram, Chennai, embodies strength and authority, essential qualities of the Tamil Nadu Police Force. Designed with a symmetrical layout, the building ensures functional zoning, effectively segregating different departments and their ancillary spaces. The architectural design emphasizes balance, order, and verticality, with three prominent floors that progressively reduce in mass, drawing inspiration from the Dravidian architecture.

The primary wind direction at the site is NE and the secondary wind direction is NW. Thus, the design responds to this by zoning, and greenery which helps in channeling the winds into internal Spaces. The site is oriented in north-south axis and longer side facing east-west axis.

A POWERFUL ICON- The building’s massing creates a symbol of power reflecting the role of police in our society. A towering mass reiterates solidity and strength.

EFFICIENT STRUCTURE AND PLANNING- Creating a building that responds to the climate reducing overall running cost, becoming an example of environmental stewardship.

INTEGRATED WITH NATURE- A built-environment that integrates the outside and inside seamlessly creating a healthy environment and connection to nature.

REFLECTING HERITAGE- A sense of place can be created by reflecting the context through the art of the city and the state. This not only creates a sense of belonging and connection but, also patronizes local culture

The design blends classical architectural elements with contemporary functionality, creating a dignified yet approachable environment. It reflects the power and stature of the police force while ensuring a workspace that is both efficient and visually impressive.

The grace and the magnificence of the Dravidian style of architecture is partly due to the proportions that balance the overall scale with the visual balance of the viewer. This combination leads to an architectural marvel that is unmatched in the aura it gives.
